Just one week in to their opening of the 2019 racing season, Global Motorsports Group (GMG Racing) would enjoy a double-header of competition during this weekend’s Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, literally taking place less than seven days after their season launch in Austin, Texas. Campaigning two Audi R8 LMS GT4 entries in the series’ Pirelli GT4 America Sprint category, the duo of Jason Bell and newcomer CJ Moses would show strong, with three top-10 finishes to close the event.

“The series’ sprint races are always incredibly tough,” stated GMG team owner James Sofronas. “With so little time, caution periods, the tough nature of street courses, and the level of competition, Jason and CJ both did a great job making the most of their races. Jason continues to show strong every weekend, and CJ was enjoying his first race at this level, and they both should be proud of their results.”

Taking place on the tricky 1.8-mile, 14-turn course laid out entirely on the city streets and runways of downtown St. Petersburg, the 50-minute sprint format of the series’ GT4 category is notorious for hard racing and high attrition.

Exercising restraint throughout his run, Jason Bell would show well throughout his solo weekend. Following a podium finish during the previous weekend’s SprintX category, Bell and his No. 2 machine would avoid calamity throughout his weekend, taking seventh in Race One and eighth in Race Two, avoiding the chaos synonymous with the event.

“After achieving podium results in our last couple of race weekends, or course we would have liked to continue the streak,” stated Bell. “With the nature of the sprint races we of course had to be a little more measured in our expectations, and all things considered I’m thankful for GMG’s support and the overall experience.”

For CJ Moses, taking part in his first-ever World Challenge event, a patient drive in Saturday’s Race would be well rewarded with a top-10 finish, highlighting a weekend in which he improved nearly every session.

“It’s always a little intimidating to arrive at your first race at this level, but the team had me very well prepared and provided me the best setup CrowdStrike/AWS Audi R8 GT4 LMS that was possible, given the recent unfavorable balance of performance adjustments.,” stated Moses. “I had a great weekend all in all, but of course we’re aiming for better results with each race. Taking 10th in my first race was a great reward, I was simply trying to finish without mistake, and with a little different fortune the second race could have gone event better. Regardless, I appreciate the efforts from everyone on the team, and hopefully it provided a great highlight to all of our guests at the weekend’s CxO Summit.”

With the series now enjoying a one month break, the team’s next round will take place at their home event in Long Beach, California, with the team competing at the annual Grand Prix of Long Beach in the GT4 America Streets of Long Beach presented by AWS from April 12-14.
