GMG to carry five entries for todays lamborghini super trofeo finale
Racing in today’s first of two rounds to cap off the inaugural Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Series in North America, Global Motorsports Group (GMG) will campaign a series-high five entries to finish out the season at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California.
Leading the team standings as a result of more victories and podiums than any other team in the series, GMG’s mechanical and engineering depth, in concert with a strong development program conducted at The Thermal Club in nearby Palm Springs, has put the team at the forefront of the new championship.
“The level of quality and professionalism in this series has been remarkable,” stated GMG team principal James Sofronas. “It’s been a real honor to have worked with everyone at Lamborghini in the inaugural running of the championship, and I look forward to a long relationship. We’re lucky to have amassed experience akin to running this many cars, and without that experience of the crew, this wouldn’t be possible. I’m especially appreciative of everyone at Beverly Hills Lamborghini and the O’Gara Coach Company for making this all a reality. They’ve been great partners and an instrumental part of our success.”
Continuing their season-long campaign, Tom O’Gara and Parris Mullins will return in the No. 69 Lamborghini Beverly Hills / O’Gara Coach Company Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4. Having run at every event this year, the team is anxious to finish on the podium in their home event.
“California Speedway is the closest we have to a race in our own backyard,” stated O’Gara. “Everyone at GMG has done a great job all season with this program, and we all want to finish our home race on the podium. We definitely have the tools and resources to do it, we just need to have a smooth run.”
Also returning to the program are the father and son duo of Bruce and Burt Jenner. Bruce will be taking part in his third event of the year, while son Burt will return to the No. 33 Forgiato Tire machine for the second time after running in Kansas Speedway in August. The Jenner family has threatened for podium positions throughout the season, with hopes to finally capitalize in their home race.
Re-joining the team after taking the most recent series’ win at Virginia International Raceway, young sensation Andrew Palmer will look to continue his winning streak in Fontana as well. Having
literally competed in his first-ever car race during the most recent round, the 19-year old karting standout will look to make it two-in-a-row during today’s event.
“Everyone at GMG did such a great job getting me prepared for VIR, I couldn’t be more thankful for the opportunity,” stated Palmer. “California Speedway is a very different type of circuit, but I’m really anxious to get back out.”
On the subject of winning, GMG is also proud to welcome the return of the debut winners of the series, drivers Lee Davis and Ryan Eversley. Taking part in the opening round at Lime Rock, the duo took a commanding victory, and nearly followed that up one day later. The team will carry sponsorship from long-time partner Luna-C Clothing, who have had a strong presence in Fontana all weekend thanks to their association with the Andretti Autosport IndyCar team.
Finally, the team’s famous No. 14 entry will also take part in the weekend. Piloting the machine will be team principal James Sofronas, along with long-time driver Bret Curtis. Curtis, also living in Southern California, has driven with GMG in a number of ventures including The American Le Mans Series and Pirelli World Challenge. Making his Lamborghini Super Trofeo debut, Curtis is also aiming for his spot on the podium.
Today’s first of two rounds will take place on a compact, one-day schedule. Practice will begin at 1PM, shortly followed by qualifying and the race taking place at 4PM. The second round will take place tomorrow at 12:30PM.
