GMG Racing Driver Patrick Mulcahy Secures Third-Straight IMSA Carrera Cup Podium at Watkins Glen

GMG Racing first-year driver Patrick Mulcahy earned his third consecutive podium in IMSA Carrera Cup North America competition Friday at Watkins Glen International, claiming third place in the Pro-Am class in the No. 54 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.

Just one week earlier, during the Carrera Cup doubleheader at the Canadian Grand Prix Formula 1 weekend in Montreal, Mulcahy broke through with his first career podiums—finishing third on Saturday and a career-best second on Sunday.

“In the span of just a week, Patrick has gone from chasing his first top-three to becoming a consistent podium finisher in Carrera Cup,” said GMG Racing Principal and Founder James Sofronas. “He arrived in Montreal on the brink, and walked away with both a P3 and a P2. Now he’s made it three in a row with third at The Glen. He’s constantly developing his racecraft and working closely with the GMG team. A win is coming.”

Starting third at The Glen, Mulcahy pulled off an early pass on the Pro-Am points leader to move into second. He defended the position with confidence, holding off challengers before eventually finishing third in the 40-minute sprint.

“We were strong out of the gate, and I moved from third to second early,” Mulcahy said. “I knew I could carry more speed into Turn 1, stayed close to the car ahead, and got on the throttle quickly to make the move. From there, I focused on holding position and reeling in the leader. A yellow flag bunched us up, and with tire grip fading, I pushed a little too hard near the end and ran out of track. GMG gave me a great car—I just made a mistake that cost us a position.”

Sofronas finished just behind Mulcahy in fourth in the No. 14 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.

“Fourth is never the goal,” Sofronas said. “But if I’m going to miss the podium, I’d rather lose it to my teammate and client.”

With the back-to-back Montreal and Watkins Glen rounds now complete, GMG Racing’s Carrera Cup campaign takes a month-long break before returning to action July 31–August 3 at Road America.
