gmg extends program to lamborghini super trofeo series

SANTA ANA, Calif. (June 21, 2013)- In a stellar 2013 racing season that has included three wins, six podiums, and the current lead of the Pirelli World Challenge Championship GT points, Global Motorsports Group (GMG) will extend their premier level of race support, tuning and performance to the all-new Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Series.

With the first of five race weekends taking place in only two weeks at the historic Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Connecticut, the team already has one confirmed entry for the series and is actively evaluating additional entries.

As a one-make series of the highly touted Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo, GMG will be one of only five teams tipped to provide service and support for the championship. Beyond entering the series with more wins in professional sports car competition than any other team in the series, GMG has also recently concluded a comprehensive two-day test of the machines at the newly-built Thermal Club near Palm Springs, California.

“What a great opportunity for everyone at GMG,” stated team owner James Sofronas. “The series is unlike any other, and it’s an honor to be a part of such a great program. The level of hospitality and series support is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. The organizers at Lamborghini and Blancpain have put forth a great effort to assure the level of comfort and personal attention is unmatched. The series is not only a great place for racers of all experience levels, but also a great place to bring the family as their hospitality and catering is beyond amazing. Plus, the car is fast! I personally did several laps at Thermal this week and the car is right on pace with a Pirelli World Challenge GT or Rolex GT car.”

Featuring 570HP and four-wheel drive, the car is noted for being both fast and fun. As a mid-engine vehicle, the car’s balance makes it particularly easy to learn, and provides a great gateway for racers looking to move up to higher levels of professional sports car racing.

As a five-weekend championship, the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Series will work as a partnering series to GRAND-AM, the American Le Mans Series, and the IZOD IndyCar Series. Beginning at Lime Rock Park on Friday, July 5, the series will run a North American campaign through Canada, Virginia and Kansas City, concluding in Southern California.

Featuring nearly five hours of track time, drivers will get the opportunity to run 120 minutes of practice as well as take part in two separate races. Drivers interested in running with GMG can contact team owner James Sofronas at 949-887-5090 or james@gmgracing.com.
