GMG Racing Fuels up with Shell Racing Solutions

Global Motorsports Group (GMG) has established a relationship with Shell Racing Solutions to be a Shell Unleaded Racing Technology (URT) Fuel supplier to racers and track customers in Southern California.

GMG RacingShell’s new URT unleaded race fuel will also be the exclusive fuel used by GMG Racing for testing purposes on the company’s in-house dynamometer test cell. GMG will also use Shell Racing fuels for the company’s racing program whenever a specific fuel is not required by a sanctioning body.

“Shell is our recommended fuel for maximum performance applications as it pertains to performance-tuned road cars such as Porsche and Audi plus for testing all our World Challenge line of street cars,” stated James Sofronas, president and co-founder of GMG.

“Our hands-on experience in the field from race to road cars will show the technology being used and proven in all environments,” added Fabryce Kutyba, vice president and co-founder of GMG.

Shell Racing FuelsGMG now has Shell Racing fuels available to customers in Southern California. Shell’s new URT unleaded race fuel achieves superior results to existing leaded and unleaded race fuels without the use of lead. Race fuel technology requires extensive research and development expertise, the kind found at Shell Racing Solutions. There are about 200 constituent parts in a fuel recipe. Some are adapted specifically for the extremes of motorsports racing, because refinements that would not matter to a street car can be vital in racing.

GMG Racing was identified as one of the nation’s top performance dyno shops and invited to become wholesale direct dealers of the best unleaded racing fuel available.

GMG is North America’s premier Porsche tuner located in Southern California and specializes in Porsche performance tuning for road cars and is also one of the top Professional teams racing Porsche cars in North America. For more information, visit www.GMGracing.com.

GMG Racing and Orbit Racing Collaboration a Success at 50th Anniversary Rolex 24 at Daytona

The No. 32 GMG/Orbit/Spectra Resources Rolex Spec 2012 Porsche 997 GT-3 Cup Car ran as high as 3rd during the successful 11th place finish in the GT class in a starting field of 45 at the 50th Anniversary Rolex 24 at Daytona.  GMG and Orbit Racing overcame challenges on the track after a 21st position start including a last lap issue to leave a mark on the legendary race and venue.  Nearly two dozen cars of the 58 overall starting vehicles were unable to complete the grueling around-the-clock event or finished more than 100 laps behind the leader in what was arguably the most competitive Rolex 24 at Daytona in history.

“We started very strong and then fell back as we dealt with a harness issue,” noted James Sofronas, President of Global Motorsports Group (GMG), who shouldered driving duties along with four other teammates.  “Solid and focused driving during extended shifts from my teammates, supported by an amazing crew, allowed us to successfully see this race through to the finish.”  Some last minute drama came when the shift cable broke on the final lap of the race, edging the team down from 9th.  “Efficient pit stops and double or triple shifts behind the wheel from the team made it work.”

Two leading names in Porsche racing and tuning in North America, Global Motorsports Group and Orbit Racing, came together for the 50th Anniversary Rolex 24 at Daytona.  It was the first race collaboration between GMG in Southern California and Orbit Racing on the east coast of Florida, though each had fielded cars in prior Rolex 24 at Daytona events.

The GMG / Orbit Racing Porsche GT3 at the 50th Rolex 24 at DaytonaThe five drivers had competed in the race before and now can add a successful 2012 completion to their achievements.  Sofronas is an experienced Porsche driver whose career highlights include victories across numerous racing events, series and championships, most recently in the SCCA Pro Racing Pirelli World Challenge.  Shane Lewis has been racing since 1989 and has won multiple races in IMSA, GRAND-AM, SCCA Pro Racing and has podium finishes, class victories and overall wins throughout the world.  Nicolas Armindo started his career in French formula racing in 2001 and has earned a reputation as a fierce Porsche competitor, winning the 2010 Porsche Carrera Cup Championship in Germany.  Lance Willsey brought with him extensive experience on the Daytona track, having raced it several times in prior years as part of the Grand-Am Rolex series and has multiple Rolex 24 starts.   Bret Curtis has been competing across the U.S. and Europe and has raced with GMG in prior seasons, including last year’s Rolex 24 where they ran as high as 3rd with less than 3 hours to go.  Curtis drove the car across the finish line for the team this year.

With this first event of the 2012 racing season now in the books, GMG Racing will turn focus towards the upcoming American LeMans and World Challenge season openers.  “There is a lot we can take away from this and apply to our own racing team to make GMG Racing an even fiercer competitor in 2012,” added Sofronas.

Porsche Powerhouses GMG Racing and Orbit Racing Partner Up for 50th Anniversary Rolex 24 at Daytona

SANTA ANA, CALIF. (January 2012) – Two leading names in Porsche racing and tuning in North America, Global Motorsports Group (GMG) and Orbit Racing, are coming together to enter the 50th Anniversary Rolex 24 at Daytona.  James Sofronas, President and owner of GMG Racing, will take the wheel for the landmark event alongside co-drivers Bret Curtis, Shane Lewis, Nicholas Armindo and Lance Willsey.

GMG and Orbit Racing will debut the No. 32 GMG/Orbit/Spectra Resources Rolex Spec 2012 Porsche 997 GT-3 Cup Car for the race, bringing together their superlative track car expertise for the first time after both have separately fielded cars and teams in prior events.

“Orbit Racing is very happy to further develop the relationship with GMG Racing,” states Obit Racing owner Rodger Hawley. “Orbit and GMG have been working together on street car projects and now we have the opportunity to share the experience of both companies on the racetrack as well.”

“Orbit Racing on the East coast has been a great resource for GMG on West coast, and our synergy has created something special for an already exciting event,” notes GMG’s Sofronas. “You would be hard-pressed to find two more qualified and experienced companies working together to get the most out of a single Porsche.”

All five of the drivers lined up to pilot the No. 32 GMG/Orbit/Spectra Porsche 997 in the GT Class at the Rolex 24 at Daytona have taken the wheel at the event before, giving the team a strong driving profile. Sofronas is an experienced Porsche driver whose career highlights include victories across numerous racing events, series and championships.  Sofronas was practically a fixture on the podium during the 2011 SCCA Pro Racing Pirelli World Challenge season with 2 prior Rolex 24 starts.

Bret Curtis has been competing across the U.S. and Europe and has raced with GMG in prior seasons, including last year’s Rolex 24 where they ran as high as 3rd with less than 3 hours to go.  Lance Willsey brings with him extensive experience on the Daytona track, having raced it several times in prior years as part of the Grand-Am Rolex series and has multiple Rolex 24 starts.

“The 24 Hours of Daytona is a real test and having a great partner like GMG is going to help our car reach the finish line,” adds Orbit’s Hawley.  “What really makes Orbit and GMG unique is that racing is only a part of the business, both companies maintain a diverse client base that owns Porsche road, vintage, and club cars that provides us with unique insights into Porsche tuning and performance.”

“Two solid companies, five experienced and skilled drivers and one outstanding car…it’s hard to imagine that we are not going to be serious contenders for a top finish or checkered flag at the Rolex 24 at Daytona,” concludes Sofronas.
