Podium Streak Continues for GMG at Road America

Continuing a strong summer and fall 2019 season, Global Motorsports Group (GMG Racing) would further continue their run of podium finishes by adding to the collection during Saturday’s round of competition in SRO GT4 America. Taking on double-duty during both the Sprint and SprintX events, Jason Bell would show strong in both, with a highlight of second in the SprintX category alongside teammate and GMG returnee Alec Udell.

“It was great to continue our podium streak,” stated GMG’s James Sofronas. “This weekend was all about spotlighting Jason Bell, and I’m glad he was awarded with a podium. Road America is one of the most challenging tracks in the world, and Jason drove very well. Having Alec Udell back in the fold was fantastic, and together it’s no surprise they were a repeated threat.”

Driving the No. 2 Porsche Cayman 718 GT4 in the SprintX category, Jason would welcome the driving talents of teammate Alec Udell. A veteran of GMG’s driver development system, where he won the 2016 Porsche GT-Cup title, the likable Texas native most recently took the title in the European GT4 Championship. Adding both pace and experience to the combination, the duo would enter Saturday’s Race One a strong contender.

After a strong start, Jason would hold his own during Saturday’s Race One, running competitive times with the lead pack as he ensured the car was kept clean for Alec’s closing stint. Following a strong stop, Udell would take the reigns for the closing half of the race, doing a remarkable job of working his competitors to advance to second where they would finish.

During Sunday’s Race Two, a similar race would unfold, with the duo well primed for another podium finish. Unfortunately, a pit penalty would relegate the team further down the order, ultimately finishing fourth.

In the series’ Sprint category, Bell would take on solo duties, gaining valuable track time in the process. During Saturday’s Race One, the Florida resident would maintain a strong pace to stay on the lead lap to take yet another top-10, while Sunday’s Race Two was unfortunately cut short due to an incident.

With one race remaining, the next round of SRO competition will take place at a new event for the series, heading to the adventures of Las Vegas and the Las Vegas Motor Speedway road course. Official practice begins on Friday, October 18, with racing action on the weekend of the 19th and 20th.

Chalk 991.2 GT3 gets a Carbon Fiber Overload!

Chalk has been one of the most popular colors for the 991 generation of GT3. One of our customers wanted his to stand out from all of the other cars on the road in this color. So, he brought it in for our Track Package and some extra glorious Carbon Fiber additions!

On the exterior we installed the Techart Carbon Fiber Rear Wing, Rear Ram-Air Scoops, Front Airblades, Vorsteiner Carbon Fiber hood, GMG Window Air Diffusers, 20″/20″ BBS FI-R Wheels with Pirelli Trofeo R Tires, and Rennline front tow hook in Matte black. All of the added Carbon Fiber gives this elegant color some great contrast and the BBS FI-R wheels add a nice contrast against the yellow calipers.

Also installed were the paint-matched Chalk GMG LMS Rollbar, GMG Harness Retainers, Schroth Racing harness, GMG Sub-Strap Mounts, GMG Competition Setup, GMG WC Long-Tube Headers, GMG WC Exhaust Center Section. The Chalk color of the LMS Rollbar really brings the interior together and compliments the yellow seatbelts nicely.
Not only does this car look amazing, but it’ll absolutely destroy the track as well. With the performance to back up its mean appearance, it’ll stand out from all of the other gorgeous GT3s on the track and road!

Disrupting The Icon — The GMG WC 991 GT3RS

Most everyone has read that the 991 GT3RS is a track-weapon that very few cars can rival. However, when taken from the showroom floor they still need proper preparation before hitting the track. This is where we come in. Using our extensive professional racing and product-development experience we’ve created a series of parts and modifications that makes up our GMG WC Track Package.

This package covers suspension, safety, exhaust, and some creative personalization. This RSR-style build is a great build to help illustrate what makes up the GMG WC-Track Package.

Suspension:
In regards to the suspension, the car is lowered and aligned to our GMG Competition-setup specification. This specification noticeably increases grip in the corners and provides greater steering feed-back to the driver.

—————–
Interior/Safety:
To address safety, one of our GMG LMS Rollbars was installed along with a pair of Schroth harnesses. If the GT3RS is going to be used on the track, then the installation of these parts is absolutely essential for a safe experience. Our GMG LMS rollbar is mounted directly to structural parts of the chassis and offers a proper mounting for the harnesses.

Power:
To help increase mid-range power and smooth out the powerband, our GMG Long-Tube Headers and GMG LMS Center Section were installed. The system, when combined with the factory side-mufflers, will produce twenty to twenty-five horsepower gains.

—————
Wheels/Tires:
BBS FI-R wheels and Pirelli Trofeo-R’s helped to increase grip out of corners while reducing rotating mass. These wheels are specially-designed by BBS Motorsport engineers to be as light as possible, while the sticky Trofeo-R tires have been proven to beat out factory-equipped Michelin’s by two seconds at Thermal Club Race Track.

—————-
Livery:
Lastly, to pay homage to the factory race cars, the exterior was wrapped in a current RSR-style livery. This tie-in was a great way to underline the GT3-RS’s motorsport heritage.

With the GMG WC Track Package the 991.1 GT3RS is truly ready for the track.

GMG Set for Penultimate GT4 Round at Road America

Continuing a busy summer and fall season that has seen the team racing nearly every weekend, Global Motorsports Group (GMG Racing) will continue that trend with a two-car entry at this weekend’s penultimate round of the GT4 America season, taking place at the scenic Road America circuit in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. Campaigning two Porsches in both the Sprint and SprintX categories, season-long entrant Jason Bell will once again take on double duty, this time joined by team veteran and recently crowned European GT4 champion Alec Udell.

“Road America is always a track everyone looks forward to,” stated GMG team owner James Sofronas. “The long straights and fast corners require a lot from the drivers, the car, the engineers, you name it. Jason has shown well all season long and hopefully this is the weekend where he walks away with some hardware. Having Alec Udell join him should be that much sweeter for everyone. Beyond being a graduate of our development program, Alec’s had a spectacular year in the European GT4 series, taking the championship and bringing a wealth of experience back to the team. With the two together, we’re all optimistic for a great weekend.”

Serving as the longest circuit on the calendar, Road America always promises to be one of the most exciting venues. Competing with the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4, the long straights, large hills and fast corners should suit the car well, but as always it is always a toss-up to see just how the balance-of-performance will shake out.

So far in 2019, Jason Bell has had a number of great races, taking multiple top-five finishes and a constant threat for the podium. Driving his No. 2 machine in the sprint races, Bell will once again have the opportunity to show just how far he’s progressed in the Am category.

In the two-driver SprintX, Alec Udell will arrive as the champion of the GT4 European series, serving a near-identical format to this weekend’s American counterpart. A veteran of GMG, Udell has taken over a dozen wins in team machinery, including the 2016 GT Cup championship, also in a Porsche.

“I really enjoy Road America and have had both success and heartbreak here in the past,” stated Bell. “We had four top-ten finishes at the last event weekend in Watkins Glen, so hopefully we can carry that momentum into this event. I think that both Road America and our event at Watkins Glen will take a similar setup and driving style, so I am pretty confident that we will unload pretty close to what is needed for our race setup. I have a great team behind me, a solid co-driver in Alec Udell and more experience with each passing weekend so there is no excuse on why we could not continue our string of top-ten finishes in 2019.”

“Following COTA, Jason and I have been wanting to do some more races together, but the European GT4 series along with some coaching conflicts I’ve had made it impossible,” continued Alec Udell. “We made it work for this weekend at Road America. I am happy to be back with the group at GMG. We’ve had success together before and I think with Jason, we can again.”

Official practice begins this Friday, September 20, with a double-header of action on Saturday and Sunday. The team will provide continuous updates throughout their social media channels.

Techart and a Sapphire Blue Metallic 991.2 Porsche 911 Carrera

A lot of people consider the 911 to be the perfect combination of looks, practicality, and performance. It’s the perfect, fun daily driver!

We recently had a customer drive almost 400 miles to give his daily driven 911 the GMG touch. He traveled down from Northern California with a car full of Techart parts because of another car we posted on Instagram showing off a Techart wing install! He wanted to give his car the same look, but take it to the next level.

We installed the Techart Aerokit to give this car the aggressive look he wanted. As most of the parts needed to be color-matched, it was imperative to take the time needed to make sure the metallic in the paint was spot-on! Included in this install were the Techart front spoiler l, rear spoiler ll, side skirts, rear diffuser, side air outlet louvers, Techart exhaust tips, and OEM Porsche GT3 mirrors. These Techart pieces individually might go unnoticed to the untrained eye, but all together, this car will never go unnoticed. This car will be the envy of everybody in the Bay Area rush hour!

Winning Streak Continues for GMG at Laguna Seca

Continuing a strong season in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America, Global Motorsports Group (GMG Racing) would enjoy yet another successful event in their 2019 campaign, taking three victories during the weekend across three entries. Mel Johnson and Thomas Lovelady would enjoy yet another victory to their tally, Jeffrey Cheng and Jon Hirshberg would continue to show promise, and James Sofronas would close with yet another victory sweep in category.

“Three more wins has added to an incredible season in our Super Trofeo campaign,” stated James Sofronas, acting as both a driver and GMG’s team owner. “Yet another win for Mel and Thomas has made for a pretty cool year so far, and I’m happy to see them walk away with another trophy. Jeffrey and Jon continue to show promise, and with a little better luck they’ll have an even better close to the year. Personally, it was great to get some added seat time and continue our development work on the car, and of course another couple wins doesn’t hurt.”

Delivering victory, Mel Johnson and Thomas Lovelady would follow where they left off in the previous round. While challenges would curtail Saturday’s Race One, the duo would prove their prowess once again on Sunday, taking a class victory in commanding fashion to add to their 2019 tally, which also included a victory at the most recent round in VIRginia.

For Jeffrey Cheng and Jon Hirshberg, a strong showing in Race One would show well for the duo, who with each race continue to improve, ultimately netting them a top-five. Unfortunately an incident in Race Two would curtail their opportunity to repeat, but the potential showed true as the duo closed their 2019 campaign.

Leading the charge in solo duties, James Sofronas would compete in the Am category on the basis of driving solo. Originally slated in Pro-Am with a co-driver, a last minute change would place the GT4 series champion as the lone pilot, allowing James to focus his efforts on car development and data collection to better bolster the team’s 2020 program.

Pushing hard throughout both rounds, James victory sweep would show command but not a complete runaway. During Saturday’s Race One, the Villa Park, California resident would take a flag-to-flag victory in class, matched only by Saturday’s Race Two where he would repeat the effort, though just barely ahead of a stout field behind him.

While the North American campaign will come to a close, GMG’s efforts in the series will continue in one month’s time at the historic Jerez circuit in Spain, with a soon-to-be-announced program.
