GMG Reflects on Super Trofeo Championship Season Following Global Final

Looking back on a weekend that saw drivers Mel Johnson and Thomas Lovelady arrive at the Lamborghini Super Trofeo World Final in search of not only the U.S. LB Cup championship, but also their first major competition on the world’s stage. Competing at the Lamborghini Super Trofeo World Final in Jerez, Spain, the Global Motorsports Group (GMG Racing) effort would take part in two separate events, the final round of the U.S championship which took part at the end of the week, followed by the combined World Final on the weekend. Winning the U.S. round, the duo would then enjoy a strong run in the combined World event with a runner-up finish, clinching the U.S. championship for both the drivers and GMG.

“We all enjoyed a great week and season in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo,” stated GMG Director of Logistics Joe Foster. “Our whole experience in 2019 for both Thomas and Mel has been phenomenal, and to close it off with a winning effort in the World Final just makes it that much sweeter. The crew and our drivers performed flawlessly, we’ve enjoyed our participation and think the series continues to offer great value for a program like ours.”

In the week’s opening US finale, Johnson and Lovelady arrived as the prime championship contender in the LB Cup, a division for newer sportsman drivers. The duo would continue where they left off, taking a win in dominant fashion. Having already been the favorite, the win would clinch their US title hopes, adding to GMG’s history which included winning the first-ever Lamborghini Super Trofeo race in the US, as well as the first World Final.

Turning attention to the weekend’s world event, participants from all around the world would gather to crown the top Super Trofeo drivers on a global scale. Also competing in the LB Cup category, Lovelady and Johnson would show much of the same speed as in the U.S. rounds, caught in tough fight for top honors and showing their worthiness of the American title. Pushing hard, the duo would eventually cross the checkered flag in second, adding additional hardware to a pretty special collection of trophies obtained in just one year.

While the Lamborghini Super Trofeo season has come to an end, GMG has appreciated the efforts of Squadra Corse and continue to explore options in 2020 and beyond to participate.

Additional announcements and continued racing efforts in 2019 will be revealed shortly.

GMG Kicks Off Super Trofeo Finale in Spain with Championship and Victory

Taking part in the prestigious Lamborghini Super Trofeo World Final in Jerez, Spain, Global Motorsports Group (GMG Racing) and drivers Mel Johnson and Thomas Lovelady have already kicked off their campaign with clinching their LB Cup US Championship with a victory in today’s regional round, and now look toward tomorrow’s World Final.

“It’s great to add to our heritage in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series by taking the LB Cup championship,” stated GMG Director of Logistics Joe Foster. “Thomas and Mel have shown tremendous commitment all season, and I’m glad we were able to deliver for them with the championship today. All focus is now on the world final, which will definitely be a challenge but we’re all excited.”

With today’s activities serving as the final round of the US championship, conducted as part of the World Final weekend in Spain, Lovelady and Johnson came in to the weekend on the back of a consistent string of victories and podiums.

Entering the race as the prime championship contender in the LB Cup, a division for newer sportsman drivers, the duo would continue where they left off, taking a win in dominant fashion. Having already been the favorite, the win would clinch their US title hopes, adding to GMG’s history which included winning the first-ever Lamborghini Super Trofeo race in the US, as well as the first World Final.

Tomorrow will see the World Final take place, where competitors from around the world will go wheel-to-wheel in their respective classes. The No. 108 machine will take the grid, with both Mel and Thomas aiming to continue their momentum.

GMG Closes GT4 America Season with Victory

Closing out the 2019 season for the revamped SRO GT4 America, Global Motorsports Group (GMG Racing) and drivers Jason Bell and James Sofronas would end the season on a high, taking victory and an additional podium at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Taking on double duty, Jason Bell would also drive solo in the series’ Sprint category, twice taking top-10 results.

“This was a great way to close the SRO season,” stated GMG team owner and co-driver James Sofronas. “Jason Bell has been stronger and stronger in every race he’s competed in, so to close on a podium is a perfect end to our season. I’m happy to see him walk away with a win and some more trophies, and we appreciate all of the support we’ve had through the year with Porsche Motorsport North America with Jason’s vehicles. Thanks to everyone at SRO and Pirelli for a fantastic season.”

In the two-driver SprintX category, Sofronas and Bell would enter the Am category in the No. 2 Porsche 718 Cayman CS MR. On Saturday’s Race One, a class pole position would allow James to lead throughout his opening stint, handing over to Jason just past the halfway point and doing his best to bring the car home, ultimately finishing third and on the podium.

During Sunday’s Race Two, a reversal in roles would only further improve the team’s fortunes, with Bell opening the race remarkably, holding his own with the lead pack before Sofronas would take the reigns, doing his best to work the field in front of him and take victory. It would serve as a remarkable stamp on the year which has seen the team take podiums in nearly every race gathering they’ve arrived in, and with Jason Bell proving the merit of the team’s development system.

In the Sprint category, Jason would also enjoy strong and clean runs. Serving as a one-driver format, Bell would impress during both rounds, managing to avoid incident and taking sixth and seventh-place finishes.

“Awesome way to finish the season,” stated Bell. To close the year out with a win is great, and I look forward to spring boarding this momentum into 2020.”

While the flagship SRO championship has come to a close, GMG’s 2019 season is still well under way, with several events soon to be announced.

GMG Ready for SRO Finale in Las Vegas

Enjoying a strong 2019 in which the team has enjoyed a podium result at nearly every race weekend, Global Motorsports Group (GMG Racing) and drivers Jason Bell and James Sofronas will look to end their season on a high during this weekend’s Pirelli GT4 America finale at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Campaigning in both the Sprint and SprintX categories, Jason Bell will once again share double duties, with Sofronas playing SprintX co-driver in the Am/Am division.

“We want to finish the SRO season on a high,” stated GMG team owner and co-driver James Sofronas. “The Las Vegas finale is a new event for the revitalized SRO championship, and we’re all looking forward to participating. Jason Bell has been an invaluable member of our family all season, and with each race the potential has only become stronger. We’d love to finish his year on a podium, and hopefully the unique layout of Las Vegas should help that.”

Continuing the trend of running in both categories, the team will arrive with two separate Porsche 718 Cayman CS MR entries, both featuring driver Jason Bell.

Bell has enjoyed a strong run throughout 2019, highlighted most recently by a podium in SprintX with co-driver Alec Udell. Bell currently sits in the top-10 in both Sprint and SprintX, with a strong finish in both events sealing his standing.

“It is the final event of the 2019 GT4 America season, and I want to close it on top,” explained Jason Bell. “We have been one of the most consistent teams in the series and our string of top-ten results proves that. It would be awesome to close the series out with a win and springboard our way into 2020. The Las Vegas event is a new one and a track that I have yet to tackle. Running two classes will give me a little extra track time and time to learn. I have a great team behind me and a solid co-driver in James so I am confident that we will be able to challenge at the front.”

Joining this weekend, James Sofronas will arrive for the final race as the reigning GT4 series champion, ending the year with high hopes to return to the podium.

Official practice begins this Friday, October 18, with a double-header of racing taking place on October 19 and 20.

First ever GMG Titanium Center Section Exhaust on a Guards Red 991.2 GT3 RS

Most of the time when we have a GT3 RS come in to the shop, it’s for our signature GMG WC Center Section Exhaust and our GMG Roll Bar setup. This gorgeous Guards Red RS came in for that reason exactly, but with a twist!

Not only did this GT3 RS receive a Satin Black GMG WEC Roll Bar, but we installed a set of stunning red Sparco QRT-R seats with our GMG Seat Bases. The GMG Seat Bases are needed to properly fit most aftermarket seats in your 911. These seat bases utilize the factory seat mounting provisions on your vehicle’s floor and provide a low-profile, flat surface, for mounting your aftermarket racing seat.

Another awesome addition to this car is our first ever GMG Titanium Center Section Exhaust! Similar to our signature Stainless Steel GMG Center Section Exhaust, this Titanium Center Section is a handcrafted direct bolt-on replacement of the factory center section & is meticulously TIG welded to aerospace standards & specifications.

Weighing in at around 4 pounds, the GMG exhaust system is LESS than 1/3rd lighter than the OE titanium center muffler. It features a proprietary megaphone design to improve sound and performance throughout the entire rev range. The GMG Center Section produces deep, aggressive, exhaust notes at lowers revs, and an exotic wail at higher revs.

This is the first 991 GT3 RS with our lightweight and beautiful GMG Titanium Center Section Exhaust on the road! It’s also one of the best sounding RS on the road as well!

Continuing a tradition that dates back to 2012 and the debut of the first-generation Audi R8 GT3 in North America, Global Motorsports Group (GMG Racing) president and founder James Sofronas will head to Barcelona, Spain in one month’s time to debut the all-new Audi R8 LMS GT2. Working in partnership with the renowned WRT team as well as Audi Sport customer racing, Sofronas will put his long history with the marque to good use as they all gain valuable information on the new contender.

“This is an amazing opportunity and I couldn’t be more appreciative of everyone at Audi Sport customer racing,” stated Sofronas. “The new Audi R8 LMS GT2 promises to be a really strong machine, and the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is a great circuit to see how it performs. Overall the new GT2 platform is one we are strongly behind, it’s a fantastic concept for sportsman drivers to drive some thrilling vehicles. I look forward to working with a team of WRT’s heritage combined with my own background and the support behind Audi Sport customer racing, it should be a great event.”

Joining alongside James on this endeavor will be GMG’s Logistics Director Joe Foster, who has been an integral part of the team for many years and is looking forward to a newly created role that places an emphasis on Customer Racing.

“I’m using this trip as a learning experience for sure,” stated Foster. “The operation of WRT is world renown and I want to continue to elevate our programs in the US and Worldwide in the next few years and beyond.”

With the new GT2 category aimed at combining gentleman drivers with some of the fastest GT cars in the scene, the new Audi R8 LMS GT2 reflects Audi’s commitment to the division. Boasting 640+ hp and built off of a similar base as the GT3 and GT4 platforms, the heritage of the R8 will be will be well reflected in the latest machine, though with an impressive boost in straight line speed.

Developed by Audi Sport customer racing, Sofronas will drive with the prestigious WRT team as part of the debut. Based in Belgium, WRT is one of the most noted teams in the European scene, winning not only the Blancpain GT Championship, but also multiple victories at the 24 Hours of Spa, as well as winning at the 24 Hours of Nüburgring.

Sofronas will join the event as no stranger to success with Audi. In 2013, the Villa Park, California resident took the Audi R8 LMS GT3 to multiple victories including the Grand Prix of Long Beach, narrowly missing the first-ever championship in North America for the brand. Five years later he would make good on a similar effort, taking the debut win for the Audi R8 LMS GT4 in North America, then backing it up with three championships in the former World Challenge series.

The event is slated at for September 27-29, taking place at the prestigious Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Catalonia, Spain.
