GMG survives street fight in Long Beach to finish second in ALMS GT-C -

April 20, 2010 (Santa Ana, Calif.) – Rebounding from a disappointing result at the season-opening 12 Hours of Sebring, GMG Racing let the teams of the American Le Mans Series know they mean business by running up front in GT-C throughout the Tequila Patron American Le Mans Series at Long Beach. Qualifying second for the 100-minute sprint race, the No.32 GMG / Spectra Resources Porsche 911 GT3 Cup ran in second place for the early part of the race as Curtis, who started the race, drove impressively with the race leaders even through lapped traffic.

A pitstop cycle saw the GMG Porsche drop to third place, as Curtis exited the car and Sofronas re-entered the race in third position. Running right behind the two leading cars throughout the final portion of the race, Sofronas was able to move up to second place and finish the race right on the bumper of the winner. In only their third start in the ALMS, the GMG Racing team... Read More

GMG has won the SuperStreet/Eurotuner/NASA Time Attack Finale held at Buttonwillow!

The Time Attack is sort of "Time Trialing" competition based on a Japanese format of elimination. Fastest cars advance to the final rounds based on lap times. There were 6 qualifying rounds held throughout the year at various tracks in order to qualify for this event. Most recently GMG was able to win the qualifying round at Infineon Sears Point and set a new track record.

There more than 80 entrants at Buttonwillow competing for the overall win and 6 class titles on the line. As expected, there were some very fast and very purpose built Time Attack cars by many of Japans top tuners.

The GMG/Rennworx/Dymag/Toyo Tires WCGT Porsche Cup car (#14 in World Challenge GT) driven by James Sofronas posted the fastest time of the day taking the top prize of fastest car overall as well as winning the unlimited class overall. The second place car was a 700+hp Skyline GTR purpose built and driven by one of Japans drift kings. Complete with wide body and shod with Hoosier DOTR tires, the car was very powerful. The battle was intense, but James was able to put down a flier posting a 1:49:000 lap time compared to the XS Engineering Skyline GTR's time of 1:49:261. Very close indeed but the Porsche proved victorious!

GMG also won the "Limited" class which was open to any car (any configuartion) but had to be licensed and insured for on road use, and had to run on a tire that was rated at 100 UTQ or more . The GMG GT2, running on left over Toyo RA-1's (old race tires) won the limited production class overall and had the 6th fastest time of the day (overall) at 1:53:4xx (over 3+ seconds faster than any car in its class)! Look for a complete story on the event in the upcoming Super Street and Eurotuner Magazines.
